“Once you start to meditate, withdraw your attention both from the world of the senses and the chatter of the mind, you change. If you are young and want to affect the world for the better, this is the starting point. Identify, refine and focus yourself first, as this, your body and mind, is the tool you will have to use to accomplish this task. If you are old, or anywhere in between, the sooner you start the sooner you can discard the unnecessary baggage of conditioning and begin to live as a free human being.”

~Yogacharya Swami Ajnananda Saraswati~

Shakti Chalini Mudra – in the snow – circa 1987.

“The modern Yogi is not a dry stick. He or she can combine a fulfilling outer life with inner self-discovery. Meditation is not about becoming ‘holy’. It is not about killing your passions or eliminating feeling and emotion.

It frees you from being at their mercy.”

~ Swami Ajnananda ~

Swamiji was traditionally initiated into the Saraswati Order of Dasnami Sannyasa by his Guru, Paramhansa Satyananda Saraswati on December 1, 1977, in India. His name means Bliss through the Ajna Chakra. He has spent the last thirty years, teaching, establishing Yoga Ashrams and consulting in Stress Management for Government and Business. He is the author of Mastery of Stress (Llewellyn USA 1998). Resident in Western Australia, he is now helping Yogacharya Swami Alokananda Saraswati whose Sadhana it is to establish Aloka Nilaya, a Tantric residential centre. Aloka Nilaya will be a refuge where students may come to live as true Yogis, practising intensive personal Tantra Yoga in seclusion and under expert guidance.

What’s Inside The Inner Freeway: Spiritual Fusion Series?

There are 7 different meditation in the series. One meditation on each CD. It is not a “structured program” so to speak. It is meant to be totally experiential. The meditations begin at a foundational level, and move up to a more advanced practice with level two.

The 7 meditations stand alone as the instruction. There are two levels each of Yoga Nidra, Antar Mouna and Prana Vidya. There is one guided meditation/teaching on Tratak.  It is in the practice of these meditation that one receives the benefit.

Below is a copy of what is to be found in The Inner Freeway. It is similar to but not exactly the same as the booklet found inside the set.

YOGA NIDRA 1 & 2

Swami Ajnananda has been teaching this profound baseline meditation practice for more than thirty years. The two versions in the Inner Freeway are: Introductory, suitable even for students with no previous experience, and a more advanced session.

This ultimate baseline meditative technique of deep restorative potential, based on the ancient Tantric practice of Nyasa, Yoga Nidra was originally codified by: Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati, for the modern age. The deep, multileveled method of Pratyahara or Sense Withdrawal establishes the essential inner climate for Dhyana (Meditation). Yoga Nidra is the baseline practice of the Spiritual Fusion Series as well as the perfect antidote to prolonged deadline stress.

TRATAK

Each of your senses is a window through which you connect to the world. Each sense has its own specific reservoir of energy, and also memory. Tratak, steady, one-pointed gazing, is one of the six practices that constitute classical Hatha Yoga. Tratak is also a practice of Dharana, (single pointed focus) and a preparation for Dhyana (Meditation).

Swamiji says: “In esoteric Tantric practice, various objects are used, but I prefer to initially instruct with the candle flame. The candle flame has many positive associations, including warmth and light. Physically you create a situation where your eyes are relaxed, and the intensity of light, the same in each eye, is a balanced input that relaxes the physical brain as well as the mind. It is one of the Shat Kriyas of Hatha Yoga for its cleansing attributes, but these effects are not confined to the visual cortex. It is also a gentle but incredibly powerful psychic cleansing technique.”

ANTAR MOUNA 1 & 2

Swami Ajnananda has been teaching and evolving this original technique developed by Paramahamsa Satyananda since 1977. When it is combined with Tratak, under competent supervision, it is an incredibly powerful tool for psychological integration. Applied Antara Mouna is the result of his work with Vietnam Veterans suffering from PTSD.

Swamiji says: “Everybody is damaged to some degree. Painful and traumatic events have occurred in every life. These events, with their associated emotional charges, are submerged in the deeper levels of mind. If they were not, we would never be able to function. But there, although they are hidden, they are not inactive.

A certain sound or smell or quality of light can prompt changes in mood and perception without our consciously knowing why. A memory is comprised of many components: auditory, visual, olfactory and tactile impressions. By association, suppressed memories continue to exert pressure on the being, cause disruption and fragmentation of our capacity for joy.

If you have something you want to deal with, and it is deep and strong, you will need to develop the witnessing faculty, Sakshi Bhava, by consistent practice before you address it. Tratak is the ideal precursor to Applied Antara Mauna and can dramatically increase its efficacy.

In this therapeutic application the prerequisites are a combination of skill and courage. Only you can gauge your readiness.”

Antara Mouna 1:  Classical Structure in 5 Stages

This is the systematic application of your awareness to the activity and patterns of the mind. We are taught to add and subtract, to survive and prosper in a society that is profoundly neurotic, but no one, not our professors of logic or philosophy, ever teaches us how to actually think. The mind has great power, but it is diffuse and scattered. Antara Mouna develops in a gradual, friendly way, the ability to control the mind, apply it to any question, without suppression.

Antar Mouna 2: Applied Antara Mauna ~ Inner Silence:

Best practised once a degree of proficiency has been achieved in the Classical 5 Stages, Applied Antara Mouna, apart from being an evolution of the Classical practice, can be a template to address and defuse trauma, whether in the immediate aftermath, as in Critical Incident Defusing, or in the case of long suppressed experience.

Prana Vidya 1 & 2

Swamiji says: “Your body does not end where, for the sake of functionality in the world, you assume it does. The animating and organising life energy expresses itself and is perceptible, in your Pranic Body. A compost heap is incredibly alive. But it is not coordinated and aimed at maintaining the integrity of its components.”

The first practice is an introduction to the ancient, healing technique that awakens the awareness of Prana and lays the foundation for developing the ability to consciously direct it.

The second practice of Prana Vidya further develops your sensitivity and control.

Swamiji says: “Please understand that, unless you happen to be spontaneously gifted in this area, this takes time, and repeated practice. You are developing a new, inner roadmap. If visualization does not come easily, don’t be too concerned. Feeling is just as important.”
